What is an Applied Animal Behaviorist?

Applied Animal Behaviorist

Applied Animal Behaviorists conduct assessments in a manner that gets to the root cause of a problem behavior. Treatment and training are individualized so families and their dogs can experience the best outcomes for behavioral health. I will address your health-wellness objectives and devise a customized plan to turn your goals into action.

Board Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists (CAABs) and Associate Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists (ACAABs) are credentialed through Animal Behavior Society (ABS). Animal Behavior Society is the premier professional organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the scientific study of animal behavior. Applied Animal Behaviorists must hold an advanced graduate degree in the biological or behavioral sciences from an accredited university. Academic studies are in animal behavior, zoology, learning theory, and ethology. All Applied Animal Behaviorists must demonstrate expertise in theoretical principles of animal behavior, apply animal behavior principles to solutions of animal behavior problems, conduct animal behavior research, and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Applied Animal Behaviorists must be endorsed via written letters from three other professionals prior to the recertification year, present a research-based paper at an Animal Behavior Society conference, and carry professional liability insurance prior to board-recommended recertification. The process of becoming a board-certified Applied Animal Behaviorist is very rigorous and there are fewer than one hundred in the world.
